Violence Prevention for Young Women & Teens

Our Violence Prevention for Young Women and Teens is for women, teen girls, transwomen, genderqueer, generfuild, gender creative and female-presenting folks who will soon graduate from high school, or are beginning adulthood. This workshop addresses topics that are frequent challenges during this phase of life such as micro-aggressions and harassment. These are forms of violence and can come from anyone: strangers, neighbors, teachers, co-workers, friends and family and can leave us feeling small. If you’ve ever felt uncomfortable by comments about your body, ethnicity or gender, this workshop is for you!  We will practice situational awareness, recognizing red flags in relationships, verbal assertiveness, boundary setting and physical techniques should we ever need them. Violence is always the fault of the aggressor, but there are things we can do to increase our safety and well-being. Empowerment self-defense training reduces the risk of sexual assault for young adults in half, and the risk of attempted sexual assault by two-thirds. Participants report increases in confidence and self-esteem.
